The legend of the mysterious sailor - doomed to forever roaming the seven seas - was known by Richard Wagner through literature. But the idea for the opera resulted from a personal adventure. The documentary accompanies the work on the new production (Christine Mielitz) of the opera at the Wiener Staatsoper, simultaniously telling the story of Henk de Velde, the 'Flying Dutchman' of our present.
